For me, real estate is more of a lifestyle than a profession.Gurjeet Sekhon
Gurjeet arrived in New Zealand in 2007 with one suitcase and a Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Telecommunications. He studied business at AUT and took the work that was there — an Indian restaurant, a call centre, technical help desks, even a few months behind the wheel of a taxi.
In 2011 he bought his first home in Papatoetoe. The agent who sold it to him saw something in him and encouraged him into the industry. In 2014 he joined Barfoot & Thompson Ōtāhuhu — and by 2015 he was the office’s top salesperson.
He held that position every year for nine years: first on his own, then from 2019 alongside the team he built. Most of his business came from repeat and referral clients. In 2023 he was asked to lead the branch, and today his measure of success is simple — “it’s not about me, it’s always about others.”
A proud Papatoetoe local and father of three, he still loves that first-home buyers remember the person who helped them for the rest of their lives.
